Luxe Resin Coasters
Thanks for coming along to the workshop, we hope you left inspired ready to create with Resin. Incase you forgot a thing or two, below is everything you need to know.
Items used for Rose Coasters:
U Resin Cast
U RESIN Cast is a simple 2:1 ratio by volume. U RESIN Cast has a very low viscosity and excellent bubble dispersion
With a working time of 50 minutes (based on 150ml @ 22 degrees Celsius)
What’s even better is that they are a Perth based business with excellent service!
You can use other brands i.e. Just Resin (Melbourne based company) or Art Resin (American) BUT I find that U Resin has the easiest ratio mix to work with and their resin has the least bubbles
U RESIN has an art calculator online. You can enter the dimensions to get an estimate of how much resin you need.
Dried Flowers and Petals
We got our from our local florist. Ebay and Etsy also has a great range. Customise to your hearts content!
Glitter

GLOVES!
Resin is extremely sticky! You DO NOT want any resin to get stuck on your skin. I had resin burns before and it is pretty horrible!
Plastic cup (and kitchen scale) or calibrated measuring cups.
U Resin sells calibrated measuring cups or you can use a kitchen scale to measure your volumes. However, remember to change the unit of measurements to ml instead of g!
Ice cream sticks
Plastic table cloth to protect your surfaces!
Once resin is cured, no chance for you to remove the stained part. (Speaking from experience!)
Alcohol wipes or disinfectant wipe
To clean the moulds of any dust. Resin is highly sensitive and any dust can impact the final outcome.
Heat gun
Tips & Method
There are many types of resin available. Be sure that it is a casting resin you have. (Provided in your kit)
Take your time to prepare, do not rush. Wipe the moulds thoroughly, you’ll thank yourself later.
Make sure you are working in a well-ventilated room/area. A respirator is recommended when working in high volumes or poorly ventilated area.
Measure your resin according to the instructions and make sure they are right! An extra 1ml in one of the parts can impact the resin curing. The measurements have already been done for you.
Mix only half of the total volume to use first and pour the other half a few hours later for the moulds.
Take your time to mix/stir the resin. You should take about 3mins (not faster) to prevent bubbles forming.
Use a heat gun to blow any bubbles in the mould.
After pouring the first layer with the roses and glitter, let it cure for a couple of hours (make sure you cover them to prevent dust) before pouring the next layer.
Let it cure for at least 24hrs before you demould it!
Have fun creating!
