Boots with a personality- How to Embroider your Blundstone boots

At House of Hobby, we know a lot about creativity and the benefits of having a creative hobby. After running a successful collaboration with Bstore, where we taught guests at our workshops how to embroider their own pair of Blundstones, we now want to share our know-how with you! In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you though the easy process of embroidering your new pair of custom boots.

Not only will your Blundstones be one of a kind, but you will also take some mindful time for yourself, zoning out and tapping into your own creativity- and who knows you might find yourself a new hobby!

Equipment that you’ll need for this project:

  • A pair of Blundstone boots

  • White pencil/chalk

  • Embroidery Thread

  • Embroidery Needle

  • Scissors

How to complete the project:

1. Sketch your embroidery design on a piece of paper, be mindful of the edges, as they are harder to stitch, Simple designs look really effective and are generally quicker to complete.

2. Transfer your design onto your boot elastic, using a white pencil or chalk. Remember to transfer onto the outside of each boot, so you can easily show off your stitched artworks.

3. Start stitching! Work from the bottom of the elastic up, completing one colour at a time, it will make tying off loose thread ends so much easier. Build up from the back of your design to the front.

4. Working through your design, colour by colour, tie off each thread as you finish

5. Once you’ve stitched all of your design, your boots are ready to rock. Add some clear nail varnish to the end of the thread to help secure your design. Adding a layer of felt inside your boot will also help protect your design.

HOT TIPS to remember:

  • Work from the top to the bottom of the boot elastic, it makes tying your design off easier

  • Don’t pull your thread 100% tight, leave some room for the design to move

  • Use a max of 3 embroidery threads

  • Less is more when thinking about design
