Hobbies to try this winter
Cold and rainy days, are the perfect excuse to make time for your hobbies. Last night I enjoyed a glass of wine by the fire while I got into some weaving (the picture of perfection). My knitting supplies will take up a new residency on the couch so that they are easy to access every time I sit down to enjoy a Netflix binge.
Here are some hobbies to try this winter, along with some inspo from our favourite artists.
Knitting
Yarn-based hobbies are going through a modernisation at the moment and we can’t get enough of it. Chunky colourful knits are flooding our feeds. Knitting tools are almost more readily available which can speed up the process if you are impatient. Google knitting machines and get those in a world of fun.
With so many different yarns and needles sizes to choose from, knitting is a hobby to try if you love jumpers and don’t mind a challenge when first starting.
Crochet
Crochet is like knittings cool little sister, easier to get started and loads of resources to inspire new projects. Once you’ve got the hang of a few basic stitches you’ll be off crocheting anything and everything.
We’ve been crushing on crocheted bags
Embroidery
If maybe big chunky knits and weaves aren’t for you, embroidery is a beautiful thread-based craft. You can pick a design that suits your style or create one of your own. Embroidery can be done on a huge number of surfaces, like fabric, clothes, homewares and even shoes. We’ve been loving these custom embroidered boots.
Cross-Stitch
Cross-stitch is similar to embroidery, instead, images are made up of tiny crosses. Cross stitch would be a good match for you if you’re someone who likes to follow patterns. We love a “cheeky” cross-stitch, the wholesome vibe of this craft perfectly balances a swear word.
Punch Needles
If you like the vibe of embroidery & cross stitch, but prefer working with chunkier yarn, punch needling is for you. This craft is also extremely versatile and you can create everything from earrings, pillows, frames and rugs.
Make the most of winter and find yourself a creative snuggle buddy (that won't hog the blankets).
