Everything You Need to Start Your Pottery Journey
Working with clay is definitely an amazing way to unwind, relax and get a little bit messy! You can do it on your own or with loved ones (who hasn’t wanted to recreate the Ghost scene?!) and create anything your heart desires, what’s not to love?
To get you started on your clay journey, we’ve put together a list of essentials and where to get them to get you started on your clay journey.
1. Clay - Clay comes in 10kg bags, but you might only need to start with a hand sized ball.
2. Sculpting Tools - You can find beginner kits which contain a few wooden tools, a sponge, and a cutting wire to start with and expand your tools once you fall in love!
3. Water - Water is needed to avoid the clay to get dry. However, be careful because too much water weakens the clay and could cause cracks in your piece.
All these supplies are available from Jacksons, The Potters Market in O’Connor and even your local art supply store!
Once your creation is made, you’ll have to wait for it to dry out completely (this can take 3-7 days depending on the weather) and then take it to your local Pottery Studio for firing and glazing which might just be the most exciting part 💕
We can’t wait to see what you create so please tag us on instagram @hohperth or #houseofhobby!
